Just fabulous. Can't think of any criticisms except that the lens hood is getting a little stiff to take on and off now, after 5 years. There are few sharper zoom lenses about. Like those of Canon and Sony it's quite heavy but that's the price you pay for f2.8 at 200mm.

While you might think this lens is a bit short for a lot of wildlife photography, it delivers a lovely bokeh and is a weight that can be carried and hand-held all day. My desert island lens....

Superb upgrade to the already well regarded version one. Offers improved sharpness away from the centre compared to the original so a great choice for FX. Much discussed focal length breathing as the focus distance comes down upsets some but helps to make it a great choice for portraiture with lovely out of focus background effects. AF and VR are both very effective and the lens works very well with all Nikons tele convertors especially the latest TC20EIII.
